Out with Aaron for lunch today at Randy’s Premier Pizza in Oakdale, MN. We had originally planned on heading over to Village Pizza in North St Paul, MN but as usual it was not open for lunch.
We met almost exactly at noon and were cheerfully greeted by the lone employee slinging dough behind the counter. Aaron had picked up a menu sheet and was already looking at the pizza options. After quickly deciding on a 12″ hand-tossed pepperoni, we were told to nab two cans of pop and asked if there was a 50% off coupon on the sheet. We handed the woman the menu and she tore out a copy and rang us up.
She let us know that it would be 20 to 25 minutes and that we could have a seat while it baked. She handed Aaron the receipt (thanks for lunch dude!) and he was shocked to see that the total, before tip, was only $6.25. He later commented to me, with a broad grin, “This has to be the best pizza value in the Twin Cities.” I could not disagree and I’m glad that I won’t be returning anytime soon or I’d get fat again on the prospect of such inexpensive pizza!
We sat down at one of the patio-style tables and took some photos of the eclectic array of “stuff” hanging on the walls or propped up against the wall including a great autographed photo of Rosanne Barr and Tom Arnold. Almost exactly 25 minutes later a great 12″ pizza was sitting on our table ready for Aaron to devour with his camera.
Before I get into the pizza itself, which Aaron will give gives a much better review being that he’s metro-renowned as the best pizza blogger of MSP I just want to mention their wide ranging menu which includes everything from thin crust and specialty pizzas to deep dish and hand tossed pizzas with many variations thereof in between. I was most impressed with the $52 option for a 30″ thin-crust pizza. That’s fucking huge.
The first thing I noticed about the pizza was that it was cut properly. The next thing I noticed was that there was a nice thick crust and that while grease was certainly floating on top, it wasn’t soaking everything in its path. Perfect to the eye! I took a bite and found the pizza to be pretty damn good for $6.25. While certainly not the best pizza I have ever had, it was definitely decent and something I would return to eat again, if I happened to be in the area and craving pizza.
All said and done, I was impressed with Randy’s Premier Pizza. It is definitely a bargain and they don’t skimp on their quality at all. Nice work.
