I’m down hard with the flu and incapable of any real writing today, even the lame levels I’ve been sustaining for the last 6 months. As such, I decided to reintroduce the South Metro News Roundup post which stopped sometime back in 2009 I believe. This is just a dump of links which I would have scoured to find something worthy to write up. Feel free to read them and discuss them as you normally would below.
1. ISD 191 ‘abolishes’ late-start days (via Eagan Patch).
2. Pepperoni Pizza Mac and Cheese (via Picky Palate) — no olives obviously, yuck.
3. St. Paul soda shop busted for selling smoking-themed candy, something which has been illegal since 2009 (via WCCO)
4. The rebirth of rye whisky (via NPR)
5. Christmas morning breakfasts beloved by many (via NPR) — this year since I was sick we went to Stockmen’s Truckstop; I’m up for repeating that tradition every year.
6. Sank’s annual holiday poem (via Old and in the Way)
7. Drunken man, naked from the waist down, is tasered three times before being handcuffed (via Savage Pacer)

So there’s the list. Feel free to comment on below. Sorry about this guys but I’m down for the count. Hope and pray you don’t get this thing too. It’s the sickest I’ve ever been.

If it’s any consolation, just about everyone I know has *something*, including Mr. I sneeze droplets all over the treadmill and don’t-bother-to-wipe it down. I SAW you! LT in Eagan). I’m no germaphobe but you might as well just let this guy lick your face and call it a day.
Nothing to add to the above list you posted..get better, and your wife too. I hope the kids are extra mellow for you while you heal up.

Not fair. Think of the poor children who can’t impress their friends in the winter by blowing “smoke”. Head to Jim’s (big yellow place). They still sell them.

I am glad to hear Woodford is making a Rye whiskey. While bourbon has been my spirit of choice of late, adding a nice rye to an Old Fashioned instead is a great tasting change up.

@ks, You should also know that smoking pot leads to heroin.
Seriously, if someone can show credible research that there is a cause/effect relationship between the access to candy cigarettes by children and children eventually taking up smoking, let me see it.
I think this is more about someone from Bloomington getting pissed off by someone there one day and the desire to “get even” with them.
Now the article implies that the St. Paul City council seemed to have passed it by just the testimony of something called “The Ramsey Tobacco Coalition” and some high school kids doing some sort of school project I guess.
If someone wanted to spend the money, I’ll bet they might have shot to strike down the ordinance as an unconstitutional restraint of trade or something.
I just think it’s hilarious that city inspectors have to deal with crap like this so some advocacy group can feel good about themselves.

I received the Templeton rye for Christmas. It makes a very nice in an old fashion. I also made a toddy (whiskey, honey, hot water and a twist of lemon and/or orange) with the rye. It provided some relief for my cold symptoms.
