I was surfing the web looking for recent crime reports from the Apple Valley, Lakeville, Rosemount area that would be better than what’s available from the Star Tribune South Metro and the Pioneer Press’ Dakota County sections.
I can’t say I’m terribly pleased by the fact that I can’t find an easy to read and up-to-date listing on Apple Valley’s website (fuck, who am I kidding, they don’t even keep their City Council agendas and minutes up-to-date) but I did locate a pretty nice map of Lakeville’s crime incidents over the last 90 days. Being that the map was done by LOGIS I figured that other local police departments had to be hooked up with this application as well. After plugging in the obvious URLs, I found that you can check out crime incident maps for several other areas including Apple Valley, Eagan, and Farmington. I wasn’t able to get Rosemount even though the city is a member of LOGIS.
If anyone knows of a place that I can locate a text copy of up-to-date crime information other than the Pioneer Press or Star Tribune, please post it below, thanks.

Bill,
Probably not exactly what you are looking for but I like to check out the Dakota County Jail roster and Dakota County Attorney listing of criminal complaints. It’s really amusing stuff.
http://services.co.dakota.mn.us/InmateSearch/
- click on “All People In Custody” then sort by booking date. Then, click on “View Details” and you’ll see photos and arrest information for each and every scumbag…er…citizen currently locked up in the County clink (as well as the innocents who were arrested for being at the wrong place at the wrong time). Remember, offenders are innocent until proven guilty.

- Similar deal but this is where the reading gets a bit more interesting. Enter your date range and go to town. I believe these are felony and above for the most part.
It’s really enlightening. I used to check it out daily when I used to have more free time.

Yeah, I was looking for something more that was in a text format rather than links to a PDF so that I could either scrape the data into something more useful or just pop it into my RSS reader.
I did know of the inmate search but the Complaint Search is a much better tool — if and when I have free time ;)
Thanks!

This list should get updated at 6 AM every day. It’s not perfect but it’s better than having to go to the site and click through those stupid PDFs.

I changed it to run at 9 AM every day as it’s apparently updated later in the morning.
