Yesterday we were out running errands in the sleet and freezing rain and made a quick trip to Target to pick up a few things, some groceries included. On our way through the barren aisles hawking a selection which is way too limited for my tastes, I noticed a special on Wheat Thins: three boxes for something or other dollars ($8 maybe, I forget). While I’m not a huge Wheat Thins fan, one box in particular caught my eye–Spicy Buffalo. A quick toss in the cart later and we were heading out the door, after 25 minutes in line because Target can NEVER EVER EVER staff more than three of their checkouts at any given time probably hoping you’ll keep shopping or something.
When I got home I tore into the box which reads, in gigantic text on the back, “TASTE THE SPICY BUFFALO FLAVOR”. The first thing that hits you is the familiar sweet Wheat Thins flavor. What happens next is, admittedly, surprising. A burst of peppery cayenne flavor floods your mouth and coupled with the sweet of the Wheat Thins you’re left with a VERY workable Buffalo flavor.
That’s right folks, as strange as it may sound, Wheat Thins are the first company to successfully capitalize on the “spicy novelty flavor” craze with a Buffalo-style item that doesn’t reek of faux butter and/or make you immediately toss the box in the trash because the urge to vomit is so strong. Nope, Spicy Buffalo Wheat Thins are a treat–almost as tasty as Cracked Pepper & Olive Oil Triscuits. Honestly, they’re so good, I’m tempted to make a little bleu cheese dip up and dip these in that alongside some carrots and celery for a not so incredibly unhealthy treat for the Super Bowl as deep-fried chicken wings coated in butter and hot sauce and dipped in bleu cheese and sour cream.
Overall, I was QUITE impressed with Spicy Buffalo Wheat Thins and I plan to stock up before this novelty item disappears like so many others. But what about you? Have you tried Spicy Buffalo Wheat Thins before? Have you tried any of their other non-standard flavors? If what did you think? What is your favorite cracker for dips at the Superbowl? Heck, what are your favorite Superbowl dip recipes–I can always use a few more! Whatever you have to say about this one go ahead and comment on as I’d love to hear your thoughts.

As soon as I read the title of this post I thought… uh oh, Bill got suckered into buying another food product that claims to be “spicy” and “buffalo wing flavored”. I thought there is no way that a Wheat Thin could be spicy enough or flavorful enough to satisfy Mr. Roehl.
Now I have to try these for myself.
Although I agree that most snack foods like this are a total disappointment, the Snyder’s of Hanover Hot Buffalo Wing pretzel pieces are also quite delicious.

It’s not that it was “spicy” enough but it was flavorful enough to make me want more.

I was thinking the same thing Dave was for sure. I will now have to go try these as well! When you threw the blue cheese dip in there it makes sound even more mouth watering!

I’d rather walk to Runyon’s. Pass.

I passed on these a number of times while grocery shopping, but I figured Super Bowl Sunday was as a good a reason as any to try these(that and Bill’s review). I must say, these are my new favorite chip/cracker/snack. I’m now in search of a nice bleu cheese spread.
