According to this Dakota County Criminal Complaint, a St. Paul man was arrested for stealing a pair of shoes and then charged with criminal damage to property after bashing his own head into the roof of the arresting officer’s police cruiser while being searched. This all started because he claimed he wanted a pair of shoes on his birthday…
From the complaint:
Police searched the area and located Anthony Lavell Frazier (hereinafter Defendant), who they determined matched the description of the suspect. Upon trying to arrest Defendant, Defendant reportedly started to pull his hands free from the officers. While on the ground, Defendant stated, “Don’t take me to jail for just stealing a stupid pair of shoes. Man, I didn’t have any money and it’s my birthday.”
Defendant reportedly smashed his head against the squad car when police were removing property from Defendant’s pocket. Police discovered thereafter that Defendant’s act of striking his head against the squad had left a dent in the squad car.
It seems totally reasonable to take advantage of a smaller store where you feel you can get away with a theft because it’s your birthday, you have no money and you want a $99 pair of shoes. However, if you’re going to use that as an excuse, at least let it be your birthday and not two days prior. Perhaps that’s why he bashed his head into the police cruiser causing more than $1000 in damage?
Have you ever used your birthday as an excuse to get something for free like dessert at TGIF? Have you ever lied about your birthday, even if it was just a couple of days, to try and get something? Can you believe this dude actually admitted to bashing his own head against the roof of the police cruiser instead of trying to blame the cops for it? Whatever you have to say about this one go ahead and comment on as I’d love to hear your thoughts.
