This sign is located at the corner of 140th and Cedar where there used to be a proliferation of political signs during election years. Apple Valley considered a ban on signs in the public right of ways, something which was later passed. Now they have erected an ironic sign to warn that anyone not following the ordinance will have their property removed.
1. My title for this post is pretty lame so I ask that you guys come up with something better (50 characters, including spaces, or less). Vote on those proposed captions you like best (one suggestion per comment please!) and after a week I’ll change the title of the post to the caption that has the most votes.
2. What do you think of this one? Do you agree the signage is at least a bit ironic? Do you think that we need a sign explaining the ordinance to those who may put signs there? Do you think that those placing signs illegally should be fined to pay for the enforcement instead? Whatever you have to say about this one go ahead and comment on as I’d love to hear your thoughts.

We already get ‘carpet bombed’ on Television with Political ads so I am glad the city is trying to limit these signs on public land. They can block a driver’s vision in some cases and be a distraction for some, I suppose. I have no problem with yard signs as long as the property owner agrees. I don’t think eager campaign volunteers should be erecting signs all over during the night without the owner’s permission.
Long ago In my mind, I divided the general public into three basic groups: the first group I call the clueless. They would put a sign next to that warning sign without even reading it. They go about thinking only about themselves and they park poorly and are clumsy and downright rude in stores. You have all seen the type. Group two: the average citizen, nice person but lacking a decent education, follows the rules and every weekend is doing something. Most people fit this group. Group three: the achievers, people who knew early in life what they wanted. They got good grades and kept learning after high school in whatever area was needed to attain their goals. They park farther out and don’t park sideways in two slots, they smile a lot and are polite and hold doors for people. They volunteer when needed and make our society work. We all can think of people who fit this group. Group one is growing fast while the other groups are in decline today.

Signs on Right-of-Way Will be Removed Right-aWay!

Marty,
I divide the public into two groups.
1. Most of us
2. People who are smoking whatever the hell you smoked this morning.
That might be the most amazing tangent in LL history. Holy crap.

lefty, he’s got absolutely nothing on Mopey. Sorry.
February 21st, 2012 at 8:24 am
You’ve never seen “The Big Lebowski” have you?
February 21st, 2012 at 8:38 am
I think Mopey stays on topic pretty well. He just figures out a way to make it the most boring and uninteresting way possible, even though he is p
Marty turned a funny post about a sign into a comment on the degradation of society and I have no idea how he got from A to B.

The Sign to End All Signs
February 21st, 2012 at 8:51 am
I thought maybe someone might see that no matter whether there is a warning sign there or not. People will still put signs there. If the city put a six foot chain link fence around that area, some people would climb it to put a sign there. The warning sign is tasteful as signs go, but really unnecessary since the ordinance bans signs. City employees are driving all over ever day and can pick up illegal signs just as Edina does. Maybe the people who came up with that sign could initiate a ‘civic pride’ program in Apple Valley.

“Here’s your sign.”

Sorry Lefty, but Marty put some thought into his comment:)
February 21st, 2012 at 9:07 am
When did I say Marty did not put thought into his comment.?
February 21st, 2012 at 9:14 am
how about this?

Photoshopping FTW!

Bill,
It’s a coincidence, not irony.
Signed,
Mopey
p.s. I’m already into my 2nd beer at Applebee’s. I know all of the bartenders here and they have the best mozzarella sticks I’ve ever had. Come join me.

MSPD, you’ve got Mopey all wrong. He’s at Teresa’s enjoying the extra salsa for your chips that comes in a little bottle right away so you don’t have to ask for more when you empty the dish that comes with the chips. Oh, and the Carne Asada burrito. All of which is mediocre, but that’s okay as long as you expect mediocre.
Ok, it’s possible he’s at Old Chicago eating a mean bacon cheeseburger (which, as it turns out, is also rather mediocre).

Free Calzone’s at OC today. I’m sure that’s where he’ll be.
February 21st, 2012 at 10:31 am
Jeez…what the heck was I thinking?
(And I’ve got nothing after NW Rochester Guy’s post….that was brilliant).
February 21st, 2012 at 10:35 am
Agree with MSPD on post 17.

Are you going to lunch with Bill?

Sorry the Downtown Applebee’s closed sometime ago. Meet me at Baja Del Sol instead please.
February 21st, 2012 at 11:27 am
Baja Del Sol. Ha Ha. 35 different salsas and zero flavor in any of them.
I see they are turning that Minnetonka Joey Nova’s pizza place into one of those. Joy.
February 21st, 2012 at 11:29 am
Really? They should have replaced it with a Cici’s Pizza.
February 21st, 2012 at 11:45 am
Old Country Buffet. Really.

Lefty, I may be a newcomer to Lazy Lightning, but it seems to me that you derail the train of serious discussion more often than anyone else! I love your sense of humor though. It takes all types of thoughts to make it fun reading.
February 21st, 2012 at 1:13 pm
Thanks Marty, I appreciate the thought.
That said, I think everyone here knows that Mopey is driving the bus.
February 21st, 2012 at 3:19 pm
The communist in me (not much, but some) wants to go make a sign and stick it out there just to give the guy who pulls the signs out something to do. If they start fining folks, will the new thing be to put a sign there with your enemy’s name and number on it? Could be more fun then ordering questionable magazines for them.

Ceci N’est Pas Une Sign
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:20 pm
Lefty, do you have a figurative or a literal bus driver’s license? Please respond.
February 23rd, 2012 at 8:13 am
Will,
I have an imaginary bus driver’s license, actually.
February 23rd, 2012 at 8:15 am
lefty, well my third cousin on my mother’s side DRIVES a bus. Take that!
February 23rd, 2012 at 8:22 am
Well I just thumbed up the ignorant dork that called you a douche on a 6 year old thread.
Take that!
February 23rd, 2012 at 8:24 am
Whatever makes you happy lefty. :-)
February 23rd, 2012 at 11:04 am
Whatever Mopey.

NW Rochester Guy’s comment is the winner and the post has been update to reflect his winning comment!
Congrats!!
