Aaron and I headed up early to get everything setup at Gull Lake Recreation Area for the 2005 MnGCA Autumn Event and General Elections.
After arriving in the evening on Thursday we setup camp and headed out to eat some food and play Golden Tee. We settled on a restaurant nearby that we found out had exactly what we needed — Sparks and Golden Tee. The Black Bear Lodge and Saloon was a well decorated restaurant that really gave you that lodge/cabin feel. The prices weren’t exactly reasonable, especially being located in the middle of Minnesota and out of the Metro, but the food was decent. The highlight of the evening was the superb Sparksbombs served to us by the bartender. They were the best we’ve ever had and she was more than accommodating to us!
After dinner we went to Target to pick up some last minute items and I noticed that they had a couple TV show seasons available on DVD that were only $18.88. I picked up Season One of Nip/Tuck. We started watching in Season Two so we’re looking forward to seeing what we missed.
The next day Aaron and I hid temporary caches throughout the park and headed to Target and Fleet Farm to nab a couple extra cache containers (two tupperwares and an ammo box) along with a couple items to throw in to them. We came back to the park, hid the caches, and spent the rest of the afternoon playing Scrabble and chatting over Sparks.
Friday night came and a lot of cachers started showing their faces in the campground. We had an enjoyable group campfire after dinner at Dave’s Pizza in Baxter and I passed out somewhere around 1am.
Saturday morning was full of work. I got up, had a quick breakfast and coffee w/Kevin and Aaron and headed to the unreservable pavillon to make sure we would be able to claim it as our own. Even though the park is in the “off-season” there were plenty of people there and I couldn’t afford not to have a shelter to run the event and meeting from. I setup the 45 cup coffee maker that Kim and I got for our wedding, the horseshoe set given to us by Chuck, and carried over a lot of firewood that we never ended up using due to the wonderful fall weather.
Oneied Cooky made lunch for everyone and mucluck made pineapple upside down cake in her dutch oven. Absolutely great food!
After lunch we had the meeting and elected the new Board members for 2006. A great group that should really be able to get some positive work done in short order for the association.
Saturday afternoon was filled with taking down the stuff from the event and playing Scrabble with Arcticabn, sui generis, and s4xton. I won. Saturday night was another group campfire filled with drinking and Sunday was breakfast, camp breakdowns, and heading home.
All in all a great weekend with great weather held with great friends!
