According to this list of Savage Police Department calls in the Savage Pacer, a young woman was either brutally attacked or simply the victim of enthusiastic modern dance moves.
From the article:
Police are investigating an assault that happened March 4 during a school dance at Eagle Ridge Junior High School, 13955 Glendale Road. A 15-year-old girl was reportedly punched in the face while on the dance floor. Police do not have a suspect but are investigating if it was an accident that happened due to the nature of the type of dancing that was taking place when the incident happened. The girl did not require medical assistance.
While self-regarded as an excellent group, some residents have expressed their opinion that perhaps the SPD has a little too much funding for a town its size. Known for direct involvement in the lives of minors, some Savage Police Department officers may have taken things a little too far during their handle of situations.
Based on what you have read above, do you believe further investigation of this matter was worthy of the time of the Savage Police Department? Should the police have been called to a school-related matter which did not result in any medical attention being required? Are you concerned that dancing which may induce injuries which mimic assault are permissible during a school sponsored dance? Whatever you have to say about this one go ahead and comment on as I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Really? for cryin’ out loud. I’m quite certain I was beaned a few times from a flailing appending at a school dance, probably from some dumb-ass poser trying to be smooth and do the robot or the lawn-mower. Did I call the cops? No. Was I an attention whore? No.
Please, do the community a favor and spend your evenings responding to, and looking for drunk drivers, people who drive without concept of a blinker, and something that might generate tickets to cover your stated excess funding.
Some kid getting clocked at a dance really isn’t worth the time.. Maybe if it was 5 kids in a circle all Rodney King style, but…
That’s my unfiltered two cents before 8am on a Monday.. Thank you, please drive thru.

It’s not clear to me if the injuries sustained as a result of the dancing were physical or emotional. I suspect the latter.

Assualt or accident? One requires the police, the other, not so much. Sounds like a school district covering their backside.

sometimes bad dancing just feels like a punch in the face.

The story is incomplete, though since it appears an investigation is moving forward, it is possible that an assault did occur. Personally I think we need more police officers, so I’m not going to complain. As long as they are enforcing laws, and not becoming nanny’s I don’t have any issue with it. Recall the police officer suggesting a young man pull up his pants and shovel the car out.
That said, I don’t recall police getting involved in physical altercations when I was in school, but then, I don’t recall having an on-site liaison officer with the police department when I was in school. Though it seems a lot less parents were lawyers back then as well and I know we didn’t have Purell dispensers in my school.

I don’t think cops can win. We don’t understand why there’s no intervention with kids BEFORE they break the law, and then we criticize them when they DO get involved.

IMO, The Savage police department has been ridiculously bloated for YEARS. OR – perhaps they’re just spending too much time on stupid shit, and not enough time on the various actual problems in the town. It seems like every time a person committs a petty offense there’s a cop there (with night vision goggles or some other stupidly expensive piece of equipment) to nail them; but when something really bad is going on, it’s hit or miss. Of course, I’m just basing it off of 20 years of observation…what do I know? ; )
